LoveReading Says
Dull, unambitious Rose is whisked out of her predictable life by a work colleague. Odalie arrives in the New York 1920’s typing pool and Rose is completely infatuated. In a city of speakeasies, gangsters, the Charleston and gin it’s not surprising that murder turns up. What is surprising is who, how and why and like all good crime tales the denouement is quite a shock, especially since dear Rose has led us, the reader, very much astray. This is delicious fun. Highly recommended.

A 'Piece of Passion' from Juliet Annan, Publisher Fig Tree/Penguin...
'I am very, very keen on this wonderful debut: The Other Typist is a wonderful, creepy, funny edge-of-the seat thriller combined with period romp. Set in Prohibition New York, it tells the story of Rose, an orphaned, mousy-looking hard-working secretary who works in the typing pool at the police precinct and her growing friendship with the new -- other -- typist. Glamorous Odalie mesmerises Rose and draws her into her roaring twenties web of speakeasies, gangsters, illicit sex and murder where everyone is telling stories about each other (none of which quite match up). It's not long before the identities of the two girls become inextricably entwined, until it is almost impossible to tell one from the other. It is the most beguiling and page turning novel, where the reader is never quite sure of their footing, and I'm thrilled that early online reviews have described it as The Great Gatsby meets Gone Girl.'

The Other Typist Synopsis
Perfect for fans of Lara Prescott's The Secrets We Kept, this haunting debut novel--and Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year--is set against the background of New York City in the 1920s…
Confessions are Rose Baker's job. A typist for the New York City Police Department, she sits in judgment like a high priestess. Criminals come before her to admit their transgressions, and, with a few strokes of the keys before her, she seals their fate. But while she may hear about shootings, knifings, and crimes of passion, as soon as she leaves the room, she reverts to a dignified and proper lady. Until Odalie joins the typing pool.
As Rose quickly falls under the stylish, coquettish Odalie's spell, she is lured into a sparkling underworld of speakeasies and jazz. And what starts as simple fascination turns into an obsession from which she may never recover.

Cyllene Griffiths - 'The Other Typist is a fascinating read with an unusual and distinctive quality. Incorporating themes of love, loyalty and betrayal you think you see how the story will unravel.' Click here to read the full review.
Catherine Jenkins - 'The joy of the novel lies in cheering on Rose, a complex character whose innocent outlook shares space with a tough core - a properly "human" character, and refreshingly three-dimensional.' Click here to read the full review.
Barbara Middlemast-Neal - 'Initially this reminded me – a great deal – of “Notes on a Scandal” by Zoe Heller, in that plain, frumpy Rose (the character from whose perspective the book is written) is obsessive, opinionated and unlikeable.' Click here to read the full review.

Praise for Suzanne Rindell:
'Take a dollop of Alfred Hitchcock, a dollop of Patricia Highsmith, throw in some Great Gatsby flourishes, and the result is Rindell's debut, a pitch-black comedy about a police stenographer accused of murder in 1920s Manhattan ... deliciously addictive' Kirkus
