Global Aeronautical Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS), Volume II - Applications expands on the basics of Aeronautical CNS communications, space technology, and antenna technology and focuses on its use in Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) Systems. It explains how CNS provides enhanced radio and satellite capabilities and improves determination, safety, security, and distress alerting. CNS also enables more cost-effective flight and ground infrastructures. Volume II aims to educate readers on the applications and methodology aimed at aeronautical traffic management during every phase of navigation: taking off, en-route and landing.Topics discussed include: The Inmarsat system, space segment, ground segment, and standards for aeronautical applications; distress and safety satellite systems and emergency satellite beacons for aeronautical applications; modern big LEO systems, such as Globalstar and Iridium including little LEO Orbcomm system; Global Broadcasting Satellite System (GBSS) and the implementation of new DVB-RCS for aeronautical CNS; commercial and safety radio and satellite CNS for aeronautical applications; retrospective of determination and navigation satellite systems and an introduction to the existing and new projected regional satellite augmentation systems (RSAS); and, new wireless systems under development, which will use constellations of aircraft and airships equipped with transponders and large antenna systems.
